iPhone and iPod Touch VoIP With an On Premise Server
iPhone and iPod Touch VoIP With an On Premise Server
Using VoIP with an iPhone or iPod Touch is no different than plugging in an additional telephone and setting it up as a new extension on your IP PBX telephone server. You must first have an application that allows for SIP registration with any provider, and there are several of these in the Apple app store at this time. Our personal favorite is the Acrobits Softphone, as it has a great interface, is easy to set up, and uses push technology for receiving phone calls. Push technology means you do not have to have the app running to get incoming call notifications.
If your business has employees that use the iPhone, or have an iPod Touch, they can use these as an additional extension, and never miss a call while traveling, at home, or when away from the office. They can also use them within the office setting when they are away from their desk. For those that really love talking on a mobile device, they can be used in place of a regular desk phone if so desired. Your employees will appreciate that they can use VoIP instead of their AT&T voice plan minutes when using their iPhone for business use. Because VoIP is relatively inexpensive, many businesses have allowed employees to use an extra SIP trunk to make personal calls to anywhere in the US and Canada for free.
Keep in mind, that this type of iPhone integration is purely VoIP. That means, all calls to and from the mobile phone will use either the AT&T 3G data plan when 3G is available, or it can be used over any Wi-Fi connection also. By using the 3G data plan, voice minutes are not used. In many situations, this allows the AT&T customer to lower their calling plan to the lowest voice minute tier available, usually with a substantial cost savings. All iPhones registered to the business phone server can be dialed using only the extension number, no matter where in the world the iPhone happens to be. Likewise, the iPhone owner can reach any other company phone (or iPhone) by dialing an extension, while connected to 3G or Wi-Fi anywhere in the world.
Re: iPhone and iPod Touch VoIP With an On Premise Server
Here's a little video we put together to show how our latest "Combined Home and Mobile" phone service operates. If the video makes it seem that all this equipment is required, we'd like to clear that up. You only need our Analog Telephone Adapter and any broadband internet connection to get it going. Feel free to ask questions on the forum, or give us a call for more details.
